What if you couldn’t leave your house because it’s “inappropriate”, “rude”? In Ancient Athens women were treated differently than today. They took up housework and taught their children. They had no rights or freedom. What were freedom, rights, and education like for Athenian women? Women didn’t have rights or freedom.They were barely considered people. Rich Athenian women couldn’t even go out in public. The more poor Athenians would work outside in farms or sold goods in markets. The women didn’t get proper education, but were expected to teach their children. They learned “domestic sciences” like, embroidery, spinning, and weaving. What were the roles and responsibilities for women in Greek Society? The women were responsible for teaching their sons and daughters and taking care of housework. They would teach their sons til they were 6 or 7 years old.The boys would be taught til 7 and then they would go to real school until they were 14 years old. The mom taught the girl how to play instruments, sing, dance, and the “domestic sciences” they can't be seen outside. They weren't taught much more. When they were 18 they went to military school and graduated when they were 20 years old.
